In the Garden and Around the table, Baxter’s Greenhouse Programs, work to increase food security and nutrition, environmental awareness, professional development, and community spirit in our neighborhood.
In the Garden programming includes monthly gardening workshops for adults that focus on practical, seasonal tips for maintaining home or community gardens. Workshops are designed to offer both beginner and seasoned gardeners useful information and support. In the spring, Baxter supplies seedlings from our greenhouse and garden start-up supplies to backyard gardeners and community gardens.
The Baxter Greenhouse also hosts community events, such as the Strawberry Jamboree and Tomato Fest.
Around the Table programming includes cooking classes for adults, which focus of preparing easy, affordable family meals using produce in season. Food preservation classes teach adults about the nutritional and financial benefits of preserving their own food through canning and freezing. Occasional family and youth workshops are offered, such as strawberry freezer jam classes and classes how to make your own fresh, healthy snacks. These classes advocate for the use of produce from home gardens or farmers’ markets as the most healthful and affordable way to provide fresh foods to families.
