Civic Engagement

Civic Engagement, Advocacy, Policy, and Legal Resource Connections

Our Work

Civic Engagement, Advocacy, Policy, and Legal Resource connections are a new addition to the work we do at Baxter Community Center. Our current focus is around addressing affordable and equitable housing, voter engagement and preparation for people to be more civically engaged in their community and gaining the tools to navigate or avoid legal entanglements. If you have interest in being involved, learning more or offering your expertise please contact Sharon LaChappelle at or call 616-456-8593 x216

Sometimes entanglements with legal issues can be avoided or appealed successfully just by knowing and understanding legal jargon and processes to address situations with the law in a way that produces positive outcomes. That’s is exactly why we are hosting Ask A Lawyer workshops!

If you would like to talk to a Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR) investigator stop in to Baxter between 1-5pm on the 4th Wednesday of the month or call Melissa to schedule an appointment or discuss your issue by phone 616-356-0392
